This is a really famous photograph... is there any type of story behind it? anything at all.. Thanks in advance... i put the link below if ure not sure what photo im talking bout..

It's a publicity shot done in 1954 by Matthew Zimmerman during the filming of 'The Seven Year Itch'. The location is New York.

The whole shot is a set-up. The updraft from the grate was from a large fan and the lighting was full frontal on camera flash. The light rimming her hair and right shoulder was a hot (incandescent) spot and the light at her feet that illuminates the grate was a hot baby spot. The people in the background are all props for the picture to support the impression of it being a spontaneous shot. At least that's how I remember Zimmerman explaining the shot in an interview somewhere.

The photographer in the background is actually a laugh. What it looks like he is focussing through is really a three sided pop-up metal light shield to make focusing by looking down on the focusing screen easier to use. The twin lens reflex cameras in those days were shot from waist level. The eye level prisms to repalce the screens didn't come tilll later.

It's a great shot of Marilyn and a fantastic shot to study lighting from.

Andy Warhol Paintings And How Warhol Became Famous

Marilyn Monroe became a Warhol Star after her death and perhaps is the most famous Warhol painting. A series of different color combinations of the original Monroe photo brought increased fame to Andy Warhol.

Campbell's Soup Cans remain one of the most famous series of Warhol's art and indeed the most popular. The soup brand was covered by Warhol over many years as he looked to portray different feelings through each variation and used the can symbol as a tool to mould.

Warhol's shoes is a well-known subject from his career which gained prominence very early on, before his art style was even to gain momentum. Warhol's professional illustrations along this theme helped him to progress his career. The combination of brightly coloured shoes against dark background proved hugely popular. The success of Warhol as an illustrator helped him to progress into his other art mediums which eventually led to the formation of the Pop Art movement, and his flurry into Film and TV.

The attempted murder of Andy Warhol led to a new direction in Warhol's work which covered the subject of death and other items closely related to that. The Gun series is a good example of this new art direction, and he used his common repetition style to put across his feelings of death and danger.

Warhol's bold styles is shown best in his Cow wallpaper series which remains a popular choice with Warhol Art lovers around the world. Psychedelic yellow combined with pinks to dazzle art lovers and attract young followers towards the Pop Art movement, of which Warhol was one of the figureheads. The cow photo came from an agricultural print which later was repeated into real wallpaper by obsessed Warhol.

The full length of Warhol's career is littered with interesting self-portraits which help art fans to see into Warhol's mind and discover how he saw himself. Some were also less than happy portrayals and showed a typical artist at odds with himself, so common amongst many of the greatest artists.
